You can get a Book Box in the following genres:
The Fantasy Box has stories that contain some element of magic or the supernatural. These stories are not limited to a certain time period or location; you may get books with a medieval village or a modern city. Themes in this Box may include Fairies, Witches, Vampires, Werewolves, Fey, Kingdoms, and Quests.
The Paranormal Romance Box includes stories with both romance and the supernatural (not Harlequins). These stories may range in style and scope, but they will all involve some kind of romance, some sexual content, and some exciting premise. Themes in this Box may include Manly Men, Feisty Heroines, Mythology, Forbidden Love, Eternal Devotion, and Shapeshifters.
The Romance Box contains stories that deal with relationships (or lack thereof). These stories include love, some sex, and a central conflict that the characters must overcome. The setting may vary from modern cityscapes to suburban fields. This Box differs from the Paranormal Romance Box in that it involves traditional romance but without the magic and mysticism. Themes in this Box may include Beach Getaways, Vacation Flings, Office Temptations, and Date Disasters.
The Science Fiction Box contains stories that deal with science and technology. These may vary from a story of manners in Steampunk Victorian England to ringside seats to the End of the Universe. Themes in this Box may include Time Travel, Space Exploration, Aliens, Eugenics, Futurism, and Alternate Histories.
The Teen Box contains coming-of-age stories written for young adults. These tales will vary from high school halls to imaginative landscapes, but they will all involve a young protagonist, elements of emerging sexuality, well-developed characters, and some social commentary, not to mention a solid plotline held together with good writing. Themes in the Box may include Bullying, Mysteries, Monsters, Secret Identities, Ancient Heirlooms, and Dystopias.
The Thriller Box contains mysteries, suspense, and stories that keep you guessing. These stories may range in time period and locale, but they will all have a central mystery, slowly build up to a thrilling conclusion, and keep you in suspense until the very end. Themes in the Box may include Detective Tales, Serial Killers, Courtroom Dramas, Police Procedurals, Scary Noises, and Hauntings.
The WhoDunIt? Box contains classic mysteries. These stories will feature a compelling event, a diehard protagonist, gumshoe detective work, and a satisfying revelation–but without the blood spatter and explosions found in the Thriller Box. Themes in the Box may include Detective Tales, Small Towns, Plucky Heroines, and Old School Policework.
True Mystery Box
Do you enjoy taking risks? Do you love genuine surprises? Try out our Mystery Box.
The same rules apply: each fiction book will be the start of a series from a well-reviewed author. Each Box will have a theme.
The difference? You have absolutely no idea what world you are entering each month. It could be steampunk Victorians; it could be cavemen facing mastodons; it could be aliens defending their planet.
One thing is certain: it will be a good story (at least some people will have thought so!) with intriguing characters, a solid plot, and good writing.
Live a little. Take a risk. Get a Mystery Box.
